This was first trap show I was so exited. Year back, a trap artist that's pretty popular (10m views per beat average) came to my City. This is what I imagined trap shows to be. It's a whole new experience where the entire room is singing with the band and the breakdown is heavy. Specifically the vocal which really set apart the small and big bands, the popular vocalists really had more skill, confidence and power. Seeing the bands play live I could really feel if the music got that honest deep feeling to it. When I was younger before getting into hiphop, I loved hardcore punk music and went to live shows all the time. He rapped his shit live flawlessly while jumping around and all that. Ps: schoolboy Q was a fucking surprise though. Moreover, i can go to 2 concerts from old school legends for the price of one ticket of new artists, so its a no brainer Id rather hear the asap mob rap live and then get wild, instead of moshing to the song which i could turn on at a house party and go nuts myself. Not that it was wack and moshing wasnt fun, but i want to hear live music and am stuck in the old school kind of " i wanna hear him spit live, how good is he really? Is he the best? " kind of mentality. Like i was legitimately disappointed seeing rocky and ferg. But i got to admit that its not worth paying an expensive ticket and going to the show for me. I still like a lot of new dudes though and some even still rap live, like Kendrick. All for the vibe and hype, having a good time and just wildin, moshin etc instead of impressing as the best rapper / live spitter. I think its basically the essence of the turnup generation. All rapped with lip sync and the full track playing, hyping the crowd up, rapping some lines along etc. KRS One, pharcyde, outkast, method and redman, busta rhymes all rapped live with no lip sync at all and also with the instrumental only and not the full song.Īsap Rocky, Asap Ferg, travis scott etc. Thats not meant as hate and being one of those "fuck trap old school is the obly good rap music" comments, its just what i observed on concerts, festivals and concert footage on the internet. Thats why you see all the oldschool rappers rapping live, while most of the new school artists use lip sync and basically just play their own hypeman. Mainly since mainstream trap took over and being a good live rapper wasnt a factor in terms of being dope anymore.
